The History

The territory of Casalbaroncolo has been inhabited since the Iron Age, as evidenced by the discovery of an Etruscan site near the Milano-Bologna railway. During the Roman era, the area was divided into "centuriazione" and along the road to Casalbaroncolo it is still possible to admire the remains of a well used for irrigation purposes.

In the Middle Ages, a chapel dedicated to Saint Peter the Apostle was built, first mentioned in 1230. In 1806, Casalbaroncolo became a hamlet of the municipality of San Donato (Parma), which was later dissolved and merged with Marore in the new municipality of San Lazzaro Parmense.

Unfortunately, on July 15, 1971, an earthquake destroyed the medieval church of Saint Peter the Apostle, marking a tragedy in the history of Casalbaroncolo. In addition, on March 2, 2006, the village was shocked by the murder of Tommaso Onofri, an 18-month-old child. The case received great media attention.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Despite the destruction of the medieval church, since 1974 the hamlet can still count on the reconstruction of the Church of Saint Peter the Apostle, in perfect Brutalist style. Designed by the surveyor Corrado Truffelli, the church is now one of the main attractions of Casalbaroncolo.

Final Thoughts

Furthermore, Casalbaroncolo is the perfect starting point to discover the wonderful surroundings, immersing yourself in natural landscapes and mountain ranges. So, if you are looking for a quiet and welcoming destination just a few steps from Parma, this village is perfect for you. Come and discover the magic of Casalbaroncolo!
