Parlasco
Welcome to Parlasco, the Frescoed Village of Valsassina
Parlasco is a small town located in the beautiful Valsassina, in Lombardy. With its 134 inhabitants, it is known as the "Frescoed Village" thanks to the beautiful frescoes that adorn the streets of the town, creating a typical postcard-like atmosphere.
Origins of the Name
According to tradition, the name Parlasco derives from the bandit Lasco, also known as the "Count of Marmoro", who lived in the area near the farms of Marmoro, on the nearby forested hills.
History
The origins of Parlasco date back to the 14th century when a fortified castle was built in the Marmoro area. Later, another castle known as "del Portone" was built along the path to Bellano. The town passed to the Monti family after being conquered by Gian Giacomo Medici. Over the centuries, several frescoes were painted in some churches of Parlasco, many of which are still visible today.
Symbols
The Parlasco coat of arms, dating back to 1934, depicts a grassy mountain on the Pizzi di Parlasco, crossed by a green band symbolizing the ancient communication route between Bellano and Valsassina.
