Miogliola
Miogliola: a small Piedmontese village with a millenary history
Miogliola is a small hamlet of the municipality of Pareto, located in the province of Alessandria, which has its roots in a distant past. The village, whose name means "rocky place", has a history that spans centuries and is attested by numerous historical documents.
According to tradition, Miogliola was founded in the Middle Ages and its first mention in a document dates back to 1223. The church of San Lorenzo, one of the most representative monuments of the village, already existed at that time and was part of the diocese of Acqui.
Over the centuries, Miogliola has undergone numerous changes and expansions, until reaching the current form. In 1710, the church of San Lorenzo was built, which can still be admired in the center of the village. The building was only completed in 1819.
In 1880 the elementary schools were opened and in 1938 electricity arrived in the village, marking an important step forward for the daily life of its inhabitants.
After World War II, most of the population moved to the towns of the Ligurian Riviera, especially Savona and Genoa, and this led to a demographic decline of the village.
The events of Miogliola
Despite the recent decrease in population, Miogliola continues to keep its traditions and events alive. In particular, in August the Feast of San Lorenzo Martire, the patron saint of the village, is held. During the festival, various activities take place, including the religious procession and musical shows.
The hamlets of Miogliola
Despite being a small village, Miogliola also includes three hamlets: Bergiavelli, Garbarini and Frascheto. Each of these hamlets has its own history and peculiarities, such as the numerous fountains and old stone houses that characterize them.
Frascheto, for example, is famous for its beautiful rural church, whose façade is decorated with very ancient frescoes and paintings. Bergiavelli, on the other hand, is known for its naturalistic paths, which allow you to admire the beautiful surrounding landscape.
Garbarini, finally, is a small hamlet characterized by the beauty of the typical Langhe architecture and the presence of an ancient and suggestive fountain.
Connections with the province of Alessandria
The village of Miogliola is crossed by the provincial road that connects the municipality of Mioglia to the Errro bridge, where it intersects with the former state road 334 of Sassello. This makes the village easily accessible from other locations in the province of Alessandria, including Pareto, Sassello and Acqui Terme.
Moreover, the village is located on the left bank of the Erro stream, which marks the border between Piedmont and Liguria. For this reason, Miogliola is easily accessible also from the Ligurian localities of the Ponente Riviera, such as Savona or Finale Ligure.
Conclusions
Miogliola is a small Piedmontese village that preserves the beauty and authenticity of the atmosphere of mountain villages. Despite the decrease in population, the village continues to keep its traditions alive and to offer numerous events throughout the year. Its strategic location makes it an ideal place for those who want to discover the beauties of the province of Alessandria and the Ponente Riviera.
