Palù

A dive into Palù's history

Hello everyone! Today I will take you on a journey to discover Palù, a municipality in Veneto located about 22 kilometres from Verona. With its 1215 inhabitants, Palù extends eastward of the province, surrounded by the Bussè and Mirandolo rivers. Its history dates back to the 12th century, when the area was reclaimed and became an important cultivable zone. Palù remained sparsely inhabited for a long time, so much so that it only became a parish in 1526 and became famous for the production of low-cost food products. Today, Palù's territory is characterized by the original Palus, with the presence of extensive agricultural enterprises.

Religious and civil architecture of Palù

Among the places of interest in the municipality, we can note the presence of the Church of San Zenone, dating back to the 20th century, where one can admire a fresco attributed to Giovanni Caroto and the altarpiece of Pasquale Ottino entitled "Cristo Risorto" (Resurrected Christ). Furthermore, it is possible to visit the former church of San Zenone, a church from the 13th century subsequently built upon by the second church from 1691. Among the civil architectures, we find Villa Maffei Rizzardi, dating back to the 18th century, and Villa Miniscalchi, built in the 18th century.

The culture of Palù

The municipality of Palù is known for its connection with Verona, a city with which it has maintained a strong cultural, religious, and economic bond over the centuries. In the past, the power of a city derived from its ability to develop commerce, food production, and militarization, and Palù was one of the municipalities that significantly contributed to this development. The devotion to San Zeno, who became the patron saint of the municipality, is proof of this.
