A brief introduction to Ascoli Piceno

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk about a beautiful Italian city: Ascoli Piceno! It is located in the Marche region and is the capital of the province of Ascoli Piceno. The city is famous for its historic center in travertine and particularly for the splendid Piazza del Popolo. In addition, it is known as the "City of a hundred towers" and here a delicious culinary specialty was created, the Olive Ascolane. But let's discover more about the city together!

Physical geography

Ascoli Piceno is located in the southern part of the Marche region, about 28 km from the Adriatic Sea. The center is located at an altitude of 154 m above sea level and is surrounded by three mountains: Monte Ascensione, Colle San Marco and Montagna dei Fiori. In addition, the territory is characterized by the presence of two protected natural parks: the Gran Sasso National Park to the south and the Monti Sibillini National Park to the northwest.

Ascoli Piceno borders numerous municipalities, including Venarotta, Rotella and Castignano to the north, Appignano del Tronto, Castel di Lama, Castorano and Colli del Tronto to the east, Folignano and Maltignano to the south and Acquasanta Terme and Roccafluvione to the west.

The city is located in the Tronto Valley and is classified as Zone 2 for medium seismicity and Zone D for the climatic classification of Italian municipalities.

Rivers, streams and mountains

Ascoli Piceno is crossed by the Tronto river, the Castellano stream and the Chiaro stream. In addition, the city is surrounded by several mountains, including Monte Ascensione, Montagna dei Fiori and Collina del Sacro Cuore. The latter has a very interesting feature: a series of fourteen sculptural works in travertine, made by the artist Antonio Mancini, dedicated to the passion of Christ and depicting the themes of the Stations of the Cross.

Climate

The climate of Ascoli Piceno is sub-apennine type, precisely because it is located close to important mountain ranges. Therefore, summers are hot and dry and winters are cold and humid.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Ascoli Piceno is a very charming city, with a historic center full of monuments and unspoiled nature. There are many reasons to visit it, from its artistic and cultural heritage to its excellent local cuisine. If you have the opportunity to stop by, you won't regret it!
