Bellolampo
Bellolampo: a hill behind the city of Palermo
Bellolampo is located behind the famous Conca d'Oro of Palermo and can be seen from almost the entire city. On the hill, there are different buildings, including the small house built during Fascism, the Inzerillo estate, and the Carramusa estate. Most people associate the hill with the provincial landfill located on the inner slope, but in recent years, a project has been approved to build an incinerator that will replace the landfill.
The town
The building boom on the hill began in the 1960s and extended until the 1990s. The Inzerillo estate was built on the homonymous well, while the Carramusa estate is located in the area known as Pizzo Capra. Bellolampo became known for the "Hollywood" sign on the hill, created by artist Maurizio Cattelan.
Bellolampo massacre - Passo di Rigano
The Carabinieri barracks was attacked by Salvatore Giuliano in 1945 and destroyed. Another attack occurred in 1949, and a column of 60 men from the "12th Mobile Carabinieri Battalion" of Palermo was sent on 5 heavy trucks and two armored cars. However, the 18th truck exploded on a mine in the locality of "Passo di Rigano," causing the death of seven Carabinieri and the injury of 11 others.
Victims
The victims of the attack were Giovan Battista Aloe, Armando Loddo, Sergio Mancini, Pasquale Marcone, Gabriele Palandrano, Antonio Pubusa, and Ilario Russo.
