From the Fascist Era to the Allied Landings

In 1915, with Italy's entry into World War I, the team stopped all its activities. It resurfaced in 1920 under the name "Unione Sportiva Palermo," participating in local, regional, and interregional competitions, all of which were played completely on an amateur basis. During the Palermo Football Club 1926-1927 season, the first to see professionalism in football through the Viareggio Charter, serious financial difficulties arose that led the team to withdraw from the competition. The team later merged with fellow citizens of "Aquile Sicula" in 1928. When the championships were unified in 1929, Palermo started from the "Prima Divisione" 1929-1930, the third level of Italian football at the time. In three seasons, it reached Serie A of the Evolution of Italian football championship, making its debut in Serie A 1932-1933 and remaining for the next three seasons. In 1941, there was another corporate merger between Palermo and the "Unione Sportiva Juventina Palermo".

Current Position of Palermo

The Italian Football Federation considers Palermo 18th in the ranking of Sports Traditions while positioning 16th in the Perpetual Ranking of Serie A since 1929.

Palermo currently plays in Serie B, the second level of Italian football. However, the club is going through a difficult moment and has recently declared bankruptcy. The team had already been relegated to Serie D after finishing the 2018-2019 season in last place in Serie B, but their registration for the next season was accepted after providing the required economic and financial coverage.

The club's financial situation remains precarious, and it is hoped that a serious buyer can save the team and bring it back to past successes.

In conclusion, the history of Palermo Football Club has had its ups and downs, but the team will always remain an important asset for the city of Palermo and all passionate football fans.
