The province's territory ranges from the mountains of the Appennino Sannita to the coastal area of the Adriatic Sea.

The territory is crossed by the valleys of the Trigno, Biferno and Fortore rivers and surrounded by beautiful hills, which broaden considerably near the sea.

Hydrography

The province of Campobasso hosts a large number of rivers and artificial lakes. Among the most important rivers are the Biferno, which runs through Lake Guardialfiera, the Fortore, which runs through Lake Occhito and marks the border between Molise and Puglia, and the Trigno, which marks the border between Molise and Abruzzo. All these rivers are surrounded by the hills and mountains of the province.

The two artificial lakes in the province of Campobasso are Lake Guardialfiera, where you can admire the spectacular State Road 647 of Fondo Valle del Biferno that runs along the dam, and Lake Occhito, which offers a splendid view of the Matese mountain range.
