The landscape surrounding Palanzano is unique and spectacular. This part of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines has been recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site due to its biodiversity. Walking through these woods is an unmissable experience, especially for nature and outdoor activities lovers.

The Valley of the Knights

A territory that deserves a particular mention is the area of the Knights' Valleys, consisting of the Apennine orographic system of the Enza and Cedra streams. Of ancient origin, this territory was entrusted to the government of the noble families of the place who enjoyed practically unlimited sovereignty. The Municipality of Palanzano has been the Commissariat of the Knights' Valleys since the Middle Ages. Here you can discover the remains of ancient villages such as Pradarolo and take excursions to discover the breathtaking panoramas that the area has to offer.

The origins of the name

The name Palanzano was already mentioned in 1039, as the town was the seat of the commissioner of the Knights' Valleys. This territory included the high valleys of the Enza and Cedra, whose government was entrusted by the Municipality of Parma to noble local lords.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and want to spend time in the middle of nature, Palanzano is definitely a must-visit destination. A place where time seems to have stopped to give moments of peace and serenity. Come and visit it and discover everything it has to offer!
