Hello friends, today I want to talk to you about Tavagnacco, an Italian municipality in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Tavagnacco, or as it is called in Friulian language "Tavagnà", has a population of about 15,000 inhabitants and is part of the regional decentralization entity of Udine.
Physical geography: boundaries and territory
Tavagnacco is located at about 137 meters above sea level and borders the capital Udine. Together, they form a continuous urban area. The surface of the municipality is about 15.25 square kilometers and extends between the Cormor and Torre streams to the first moraine foothills. Tavagnacco includes other places such as Feletto Umberto, Adegliacco, Cavalicco, Molin Nuovo, Branco and Colugna.
History: transformations and development
The history of Tavagnacco has been influenced by the communication routes that cross it. In recent decades, the territory has undergone profound social and structural transformations that have led to the expansion of residential and productive settlements. The population of the Municipality has increased considerably compared to the past, from 6,719 units in 1961 to about 15,000 residents currently. The population growth continues, thanks especially to Udinese people who choose to move to a small municipality with all services and a better quality of life.
Archaeology: the past of Tavagnacco
The territory of Tavagnacco has been anthropized since the Upper Paleolithic and this is demonstrated by the discovery of over twenty thousand artifacts in local flint and quartzite in a southeastern area of the Municipality. These artifacts cover a period from the Copper Age to the Upper Paleolithic.
UTI Inter-municipal Territorial Unions of Central Friuli
Tavagnacco is part of the UTI Inter-municipal Territorial Unions of Central Friuli, together with the municipalities of Campoformido, Martignacco, Pagnacco, Pasian di Prato, Pavia di Udine, Pozzuolo del Friuli, Pradamano and Udine. This consortium is based in Udine and was established to improve service management and collaboration between municipalities.
