Let's discover together the history of Paglieta, its symbols, monuments and places of interest.

History

The origins of Paglieta date back to the Roman era and the village was first a Frentani outpost, then a Roman colony. Although there is evidence of a Roman presence on site, the first mention dates back to 1087, when it appears among the seven Castles subject to a sale between the Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere and the Archdiocese of Chieti-Vasto. In the 12th century, the village was mentioned as ''Palletum'' or ''Castrum Palletae''. During 1312 and 1533, Paglieta passed into the hands of Lanciano as a gift from Charles V to Rodorico Arripalda. Subsequently, from 1577 until the extinction of feudal lords, it belonged to the Mormile-Pignatelli family. During the conquest of Italy's Unification, Paglieta participated in the riots with Giuseppe Tretta, a major Garibaldian. During the Second World War, it was occupied by German and English troops, but despite being positioned along the Gustav Line, it suffered no damage.
