Porcellengo

Welcome to Porcellengo!

Hello everyone, today I will talk about Porcellengo, a small geographical hamlet in the municipality of Paese in the province of Treviso!

History

Porcellengo is certainly a toponym linked to the ancient Latin language, which means "pig", probably due to the abundant wildlife in the area. The first mention of the town dates back to 1330, but its history has always been confused with that of neighboring towns until its independence was obtained in 1526 with the erection of the rectory. During the Austrian domination, Porcellengo became a geographical hamlet of Padernello, before merging with the Municipality of Paese in 1867.

Parish church

The building, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, was built starting from 1835 to replace the previous one, dating back to the 14th century and renovated in the second half of the 18th century. What remains of this ancient building is only a part of the choir wall. The Parish Church of Porcellengo was consecrated in 1840 by the Bishop of Treviso, Sebastiano Soldati, and completed only ten years later. The interiors are very sober, but you can admire the splendid altarpiece by Sebastiano Santi.

Villa Ferretti-Vettorello

This eighteenth-century manor villa is located at the beginning of Via Baldrocco, in the center of the town. With extremely simple lines, the main façade overlooks a large garden on the opposite side of the road. The front features a tripartite symmetry, with openings arranged along regular axes. On the left, there is the oratory dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, with a facade characterized by two Ionic pilasters supporting the semicircular pediment.
