Paese

Welcome to Paese

Hello everyone! Today I'll talk about Paese, a town in the province of Treviso, in the Veneto region, with a population of approximately 22,000. Also known as ''Paexe'' in the Venetian language, it is located west of Treviso and its capital, which is also called Paese, has about half of the total population.

Let's discover the territory

Paese extends to the north of the capital, where there are four other hamlets. The municipal territory is not crossed by significant watercourses, but there are many ditches and canals that supply an artificial channel system. Although there are some gravel quarries, many of them have been requalified or converted into landfills, which has led to the degradation of the territory.

Country: let's discover history, nature and traditions.

Origin of the name

The toponym "Paese" comes from the Latin "pagensis" and indicates a place on the edge of a settlement. It is not certain which settlement is referred to, but it may have been Quinto di Treviso. The other place names, such as Padernello, Postioma, Porcellengo and Castagnole, have different origins, but are all linked to the history of the territory.

The history of Paese

The human presence in the territory of Paese dates back to prehistoric times, but was consolidated in Roman times with the foundation of the colony of Aquileia and the construction of the Postumia road, which still crosses the town today. In the Middle Ages, the territory of Paese was disputed by several noble families, until it passed under the control of the Serenissima, which administered it until the fall of the Republic of Venice. During World War I, Paese was at the center of the front line and suffered serious damage.

The beauties of Paese

Paese boasts several natural beauties and monuments of historical and cultural interest. Among the ruins that testify to the Roman presence in the territory, one can still admire sections of the Postumia road and the centuriation system. In the historic center of Paese, there is the Civic Tower, the symbol of the town, which is almost 50 meters high. In addition to the Civic Tower, there are numerous churches, such as the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Padernello, the Church of San Leonardo in Porcellengo and the Church of San Giovanni Battista in Postioma, which preserve works of great artistic value.

Events and traditions

Paese is a town rich in traditions and festivities. Among the most important events, we can mention the Fair of San Zeno in Padernello, which takes place in April, and the Feast of San Rocco in Paese, in August. During the Feast of San Rocco, there are religious, musical and sporting events that involve the entire population.

Paese is a charming place, where history and nature blend in harmony. I hope I have sparked enough curiosity in you to visit this beautiful town in Veneto.
