History
During the Roman era, the territory on which Ospedaletto Lodigiano stands was home to the settlement of Ad Rotas, through which passed the Mediolanum-Placentia road that connected Milan to Piacenza, with a stop in Lodi Vecchio. Later, during the Middle Ages, Ospedaletto Lodigiano became an agricultural center. In fact, there was already a hospital in this area, known as the Hospital of Senna, which gave the town its name. In the fifteenth century, the Gerolimini monks erected the abbey, which acquired the hospital's assets.
With Napoleon Bonaparte's Italian campaign in 1796-1797, the Cisalpine Republic was born, and the city was deprived of the Gerolimini monastery. In 1863, Ospedaletto assumed its current name to distinguish it from other towns with the same name.
