Osimo
Osimo: a Municipality of Marche
Hello everyone! Today I'm going to talk about Osimo, an Italian Municipality located in the province of Ancona, Marche. Osimo has a population of approximately 34,742 inhabitants and is located between the Adriatic coast and the hills.
Physical Geography
Osimo's territory is hilly, with a historic center that rises on two hills. The highest hill, called Gòmero, is where the Co-Cathedral of San Leopardo is located. The land is fertile enough to allow agriculture, and the Musone River flows about 3 km from the center of Osimo. The Adriatic Sea is also located nearby.
Population center
Just outside the Walls of Osimo's historic center, there are two well-recognized neighborhoods: Borgo San Giacomo, to the northwest, and Borgo Guarnieri, located south of the historic center. The latter is made up of a series of small houses built by the noble Guarnieri family in the 16th century for those who served them.
Climate
Osimo's climate is typical of the Italian Adriatic slope, with characteristics of transitioning from a Mediterranean to a continental climate. Precipitation is not too abundant, between 650-700 mm annually, and is evenly distributed throughout the year. Winters are cold and humid, while summers are hot and stuffy, with marine breezes coming from the sea. A characteristic wind of the area is the Libeccio, which can increase temperatures up to 40° in the summer.
2006 Flood
The flood of September 16, 2006, left its mark on Osimo's history. In less than 24 hours, rainfall caused up to 205mm of rain, causing damage of tens of millions of euros. The city was hit by flooding in the Aspio Valley, between the municipalities of Osimo, Offagna, Camerano, and Castelfidardo.
In conclusion, Osimo is a beautiful Italian Municipality that extends between the Adriatic coast and the hills. Its climate, traditions, and natural beauties make it an interesting place to visit. I hope I have made you want to discover this wonderful city!
