Osidda

Welcome to Osidda, a small municipality in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia!

Here you can appreciate the beauty of a territory that has a millenary history, from the Neolithic period to the present day.

History

The area of Osidda has been inhabited since the Neolithic era. On the land there are important archaeological evidence, including a large menhir called Sa Perda Longa de Santu Paulu. During the Roman era, Osidda was an important Sardinian center, where several coins and objects were found in the area of ​​''Ogrilla''.

In the Middle Ages, Osidda belonged to the Giudicato of Torres and was part of the curatoria of Monte Acuto. In 1350, the city passed under Aragonese rule and became a feud. In the 18th century, the town was incorporated into the duchy of Monte Acuto, fief of the Tellez-Giron d'Alcantara.

Symbols

The coat of arms and the flag of the municipality of Osidda were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on December 20, 1966. The flag is white.

From a population point of view, the municipality of Osidda has 219 inhabitants.

Ethnic groups and foreign minorities

According to ISTAT data as of December 31, 2009, the foreign population in the municipality was 19 people. The most represented nationalities were Romanian and Moroccan.

Languages and dialects

The variant of the Sardinian language spoken in Osidda is the Northern Logudorese Sardinian language, although in the local dialect some typical terminologies of Nuoro dialects, such as ''geo'' and ''oje'', are found.

Economy

Among the most traditional, widespread and renowned activities are those related to agriculture, livestock, craftsmanship, and tourism. Typical products are carpets, tapestries, cured meats, bread, and cheeses.
