Orzivecchi

The Wonderful Orzivecchi

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Orzivecchi, a small town in the province of Brescia in Lombardy, located a few kilometers from the Oglio river and surrounded by magnificent vineyards and cultivated fields. With its 2450 inhabitants, Orzivecchi is a quiet and relaxing place, perfect for those looking for a bit of peace away from the big cities.

Physical Geography

Orzivecchi is located in a very suggestive area, among the hills of the Bassa Bresciana, characterized by a flat territory dotted with streams and canals. The presence of the Oglio river is very important from a tourist point of view as it offers the possibility to practice numerous outdoor activities such as fishing, rowing and birdwatching.

Orzivecchi: history, nature and community in the heart of Lombardy.

History

Its history dates back to the era of the Martinengo family, one of the most important of the Italian Renaissance, who chose Orzivecchi as the political capital of their great duchy, becoming dukes of Orzivecchi. The town became famous throughout Europe thanks to the relationships that the Martinengo family maintained with poets and painters, such as Ugo Foscolo, who had a romantic relationship with Duchess Marzia Provaglio, wife of Duke Gian Estore Martinengo Colleoni. In addition, Orzivecchi played a fundamental role during the Thirty Years' War, given its particular logistical position.

Symbols

Orzivecchi's gonfalon is a blue flag and the coat of arms shows a white bear holding an agricultural rake with his paws.

Society

Orzivecchi is a welcoming and lively town, with its approximately 2450 inhabitants representing a very active and supportive community. The town is very attached to its roots and its history, but at the same time is oriented towards the future thanks to the presence of numerous commercial activities and the commitment of local institutions to support the development of the territory.

Demographic Evolution

The population of Orzivecchi has remained rather stable over the years, with small increases mainly related to births.

Infrastructure and Transport

Orzivecchi is well connected with the rest of the territory thanks to the presence of roads and highways that connect it to the nearby cities of Brescia, Cremona and Milan. In the past, the town was also served by a railway station located along the Brescia-Soncino tramline and by the Orzivecchi Station on the Cremona-Iseo Railway, now no longer in operation.
