The current village has medieval origins and was part of the Arborea judicate. After the fall of the judicate, Ortueri came under the dominion of the Crown of Aragon. In 1716, it was incorporated into the County of San Martino, the fiefdom of the Valentino family, from whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the banner of the Municipality of Ortueri were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 2008. The banner is yellow.
