Ortignano Raggiolo is situated among the Tuscan hills, with the Pratomagno standing above, and crossed by the Teggina stream, which flows into the Arno river near the Bibbiena border. Another small river, called Barbozzaia, feeds the Mulino di Morino in the fraction of Raggiolo.

History

The toponym Ortignano probably derives from the name of a historical Roman figure, Hortinius, while Raggiolo has Latin origins and means "borderline". The coat of arms of the Municipality of Ortignano Raggiolo was granted in 1965 and depicts the emblems of the previous municipalities.

The Municipality boasts three churches of great importance: the Church of Sant'Antonio, the Church of Saints Margherita and Matteo, and the Church of San Michele. In Raggiolo, there is also the Chestnut Museum, which offers an overview of the phases of chestnut collection and processing, which in the past were used as a substitute for bread.
