Tempio: a hamlet with ancient history

Tempio is a hamlet located in the northern part of the municipal territory of Ormelle, in the province of Treviso. The town takes its name from its parish church, which was formerly a benefice of the Templar Knights. In this text, we will talk about the geography, history, monuments, and places of interest in Tempio.

Physical Geography

Tempio is located in the northern part of the municipal territory of Ormelle. The town is bordered by the Lia, a river that runs through the province of Treviso.

Temple: history, monuments and places of interest.

History

The history of Tempio is very interesting. The town has an independent history from the other two hamlets of the municipality of Ormelle, as it developed around a hospice (later an agricultural company) that was first owned by the Templars and then by the Knights of Malta.

After the fall of the Venetian Republic and the advent of Napoleon, the order of the Knights of Malta lost all rights to Tempio, which was elevated to an autonomous municipality. Later, the town was reunited with Ormelle and Roncadelle in a single municipality, before becoming a hamlet of Oderzo. Only after the Restoration, Tempio became a hamlet of Ormelle again, where it still is.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Tempio is a hamlet rich in monuments and places of interest, including the Church of the Templars and Villa Lucchetti.

Church of the Templars

The church of Tempio is of great historical and artistic interest. It was founded by the Templar Knights in the eleventh century and later rebuilt by the Knights of Malta.

Villa Lucchetti

Villa Lucchetti is a historical building located near Tempio, on the right bank of the Lia. The villa dates back to the mid-eighteenth century and consists of a large L-shaped volume, made up of the main house, the caretaker's house, and a long barchessa of about 70 meters. A small isolated annex is added in the open space to the south. The main house has a north and a south facade, both with the same symmetrical scheme and the same distribution of solids and voids, with a triangular pediment crowning the whole.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Tempio is a very interesting hamlet from a historical and artistic point of view. Its Church of the Templars and Villa Lucchetti are definitely its most important monuments and places of interest. If you are passionate about history and architecture, Tempio is a place you absolutely must visit.
