Discovering the Municipality of Orco Feglino

Hi everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a small Italian Municipality called Orco Feglino, located in the province of Savona in Liguria. With its 927 inhabitants, Orco Feglino is a true gem nestled in the high valley of the Aquila stream, in the heart of the Ligurian Prealps.

Between history and legends

The toponym "Feglino" could derive from the Latin ''Ad figulinas'', meaning "place of ceramic production". The first historical evidence related to the territory dates back to 967, with the mention of ''Castrum Orche'' within the Aleramici. The territory then passed from hand to hand, becoming owned by Bonifacio del Vasto in 1091 and by Enrico I del Carretto in 1142.

The feudal lords built a castle in the village of Orco, enclosed by defensive walls and a tower. Over the centuries, Orco Feglino followed the historical fortunes of Finale Ligure and was dominated first by Spain, then by the Republic of Genoa, and finally by the Kingdom of Sardinia.

Orc Feglino: between history, symbols and architectural beauties.

The symbol of Orco Feglino

The coat of arms of the Municipality of Orco Feglino was granted by the Decree of the President of the Republic dated July 1, 1970. It depicts a mountain with an orc sitting on top, holding a branch of holm oak. Under the mountain, two golden ears of wheat represent the agriculture of the territory.

Places to visit

Orco Feglino boasts some beautiful religious architecture. The Church of San Lorenzo, located in the municipal headquarters of Feglino, was rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 19th century and houses valuable frescoes. Near the church is the Oratory of Saints Carlo and Bernardo, dating back to 1857, of significant historical and artistic value.

Discovering Orco Feglino immerses you in a fascinating historical and cultural reality. Between legends and monuments, this Municipality of Liguria knows how to give unforgettable emotions and sensations. If you are in the area, do not miss the opportunity to visit it!
