The history of Quattro Strade

The territory of Quattro Strade was inhabited in ancient times, especially during the Roman era, by aristocratic families who owned villas and land properties. However, after the Roman population, the Orbetello hinterland remained depopulated for many centuries due to poor management of the land by the nobles and lords who ruled there. This led to the marshland of the countryside near the lagoon and the arrival of malaria. In the early years of the 17th century, the presence of very few rural buildings was documented, and even the farmers had abandoned these countryside areas due to the unhealthy air and various constraints imposed by governments regarding the circulation of agricultural products. In 1776, the year of the Leopoldine census, the presence of a few rural buildings was confirmed in Quattro Strade, already gathered around a main inhabited center, that of Cerreto, a former rural village with a manor villa and an attached farmhouse.

Quattro Strade today: a residential area

The Quattro Strade hamlet is now a very peaceful and welcoming residential area. The town has all the necessary services, such as a grocery store, a pharmacy, an elementary school, and a nursery. In addition, there are many commercial and artisanal activities that operate in this area, as well as a church dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario, which has always been the religious center of Quattro Strade. The area also offers many leisure opportunities, such as nature excursions or visits to the nearby nature reserve. Finally, Quattro Strade is an excellent choice for those who want to live away from the chaos of the city but with all the necessary services close at hand.
