Orani
Welcome to Orani: a brief introduction
Hello everyone! Today I will tell you about Orani, a small town located in the province of Nuoro, in Sardinia. Around 2683 inhabitants live here, at an altitude ranging from 490 to 630 meters above sea level. Its history is ancient and fascinating, with traces of human presence dating back to the pre-Nuragic era. But now, I will tell you all the details!
The history of Orani
Orani has a very interesting past, with signs of its presence dating back to different eras: from the pre-Nuragic, Nuragic, and Roman periods. In the medieval period, Orani was divided into two villages and was part of the giudicato di Torres, subsequently falling under Aragonese domination. In 1617, Orani constituted the Marquisate of Orani, a fiefdom first belonging to Caterina Da Silva and then to the Fadriguez Fernandez, until it was redeemed from the last feudal lords in 1839 with the suppression of the feudal system desired by the Casa Savoia. In the last century, the economy of the town was largely based on mining, thanks to the local talc mines.
The symbols of Orani
The coat of arms and banner of the municipality of Orani were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on January 31, 1984. The coat of arms has as its main figure a golden lion, surmounted by a marquis's crown and accompanied at the base by a mountain slope in green. The banner has a flag cut in green and red.

Orani has numerous monuments and places of interest to visit, including some beautiful churches such as Our Lady of Itria, St. Andrew the Apostle, St. John the Baptist, The Rosary, St. George, St. Paul, The Holy Spirit, St. Elia and St. Francis Xavier. Furthermore, the Campusantu Vezzu is a cemetery famous for its picturesque tombs carved into the rock, some of which date back to the Nuragic period.
The society of Orani
The population of the town has changed over the years, but in recent years there has been some stability. The language spoken in Orani is Sardinian, with the variant of the Logudorese-Nuorese/Baroniese dialect. Orani has a strong sense of tradition and folklore, with numerous festivals celebrating religious events and Sardinian culture, such as San Daniele, Carnival, St. Andrew, Cortes Apertas, Our Lady of Gonare and Corpus Domini.
