Onifai
Onifai - A Brief History
Onifai is a small Italian municipality with a population of 711 located in the province of Nuoro, in Sardinia. The area where it is situated has been inhabited since pre-Nuragic, Nuragic, and Roman times, and several archaeological evidences are still present. During the Middle Ages, it was part of the Giudicato di Gallura and the curatoria of Orosei. Later on, the territory was controlled by the Republic of Pisa and then by Aragon. Onifai was subsequently included in the barony of Orosei until its redemption in 1839 with the abolition of the feudal system. From 1927 to 1946, the municipality of Onifai was included in a single municipal entity together with the nearby Galtellì, Loculi, and Irgoli.
Symbols of the Municipality
The coat of arms and the flag of the municipality of Onifai were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on March 3, 2005. The flag is a yellow drape with an azure border.

Demographic Evolution
The population of the municipality of Onifai has been constantly decreasing in recent decades. In 1981, there were 1,170 inhabitants, while in 2019 the number had dropped to 657.
Ethnic groups and foreign minorities
As of December 31, 2010, the foreign population in Onifai was 19 people. The most represented nationalities were Morocco, which accounted for 1.45% of the resident population.
Languages and dialects
In Onifai, the variant of the Sardinian Logudorese Nuorese/Baroniese dialect is predominantly spoken.
Infrastructure and Transport
The municipality of Onifai has scarce transport infrastructure. There are no railway stations or airports nearby, and public transport is limited.
