Chignolo D'oneta

Discovering Chignolo: a small mountain village

Hello everyone! Today I'll be talking about Chignolo, a small village nestled in the valley of Riso, part of the municipality of Oneta. The village is characterized by stone houses, narrow alleys, and many picturesque corners where you can take a pleasant stroll.

Its history

Legend has it that Chignolo was born in the thirteenth century thanks to four families of shepherds who brought their livestock here to graze. Slowly but surely, these families built the first shacks and then the houses. The village was a fundamental stop for those who crossed the Riso valley for a long time, especially for those heading from Bondo, a hamlet of the nearby municipality Colzate. In the seventeenth century, the church of San Bartolomeo was built, completed in 1630 but elevated to parish only in 1738. Today, this sacred building is an almost obligatory stop for visitors to the village.
