Oneta is located in the val del Riso, a side valley of the val Seriana, about 32 kilometers north of Bergamo. The municipality extends over an area of 1231 meters above sea level. During the Middle Ages, the village suffered from the struggles between Guelf and Ghibelline factions, which lasted until 1427. In that year, a delegation of inhabitants went to Venice to put an end to the Visconti's oppressions, so that the village would come under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Venice.
