Olmeneta: a small town in the Cremona area
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a small town in Lombardy, called Olmeneta. I don't know if you've ever heard of this place, but I can assure you that it's worth getting to know this area a little better.
Olmeneta is located in the province of Cremona, about 15 kilometers north of the capital. It is a town of about 908 inhabitants, located in the irrigated plain between the Oglio and Po rivers, in a typical basin of the Po Valley.
Physical Geography: an area with large plots of cultivated land
The town of Olmeneta is built in a slight depression, a few meters lower than the surrounding plain. The environment is typical of the Lombard Po Valley, with large plots of cultivated land and a dense network of watercourses. There are also patches of wild arboreal vegetation (hedges).
The water network of Olmeneta includes numerous canals, some of them of ancient construction, deriving from both the Naviglio Civico and the Vacchelli Canal and the Pallavicino Canal. Among the major watercourses, we can remember the Ciria basin (canal), in the two branches Ciria Nuova and Ciria Vecchia, and the Canobbia canal.
In summer, the climate becomes very hot and humid, with even violent thunderstorms, while in winter it becomes very cold, with few precipitation and frequent fog phenomena.
Society: the demographic evolution of the town
The town of Olmeneta has a population of around 908 inhabitants, which has undergone some changes over time. In fact, the number of inhabitants has been decreasing steadily until the end of the 1980s, when the historical minimum of 788 inhabitants was recorded in 1989. Subsequently, the population increased slightly, exceeding 800 inhabitants again.
Anthropogenic Geography: the town center and the localities of the town
The inhabitants of Olmeneta mainly live in the town center. There are no fractions within the municipal territory, but there are some localities, typically isolated farmhouses in the countryside, including Fienile Zucchelli, Feniletto, Mainardina, San Martino delle Ferrate, Madonnina, Boffalora, and Mulino Zucchelli.

The town of Olmeneta has its own administration, which takes care of the management of the territory and the organization of events and activities for citizens. In addition, there are various municipal offices, including the registry office and the tax office.
