Faè

Faè: a personal interpretation

Faè is a small hamlet in the municipality of Oderzo, located in the province of Treviso. Despite the small number of inhabitants, which amounts to 854, the people living in this locality have managed to preserve their cultural and historical heritage, which was hard-won.

Toponymy

The toponymy of Faè derives from the Latin word "faetum," which means "beech forest," and the area historically stood out for its abundance of woods. The origin of the name is a tribute to the past and tells us much about ancient ways of life.

History and culture

The history of the hamlet dates back to the Roman era, when the highly important Roman road Postumia crossed the localities of Tre Piere, where the hamlet was founded.

The first written mention of the hamlet dates back to 1314, where it was referred to by its ancient name Faedo. While the hamlet has gone through many important historical events, its parish church, dating back to 1954, incorporates many of the ancient stylistic and artistic influences.

The base of the crucifix in the new church dates back to 1500 and was the ancient base of the altar of Saint Anthony in the old church, representing a unique moment of artistic beauty. However, the old church has since lost its artistic beauty and is only used for community events.

Unfortunately, the bell tower collapsed due to the consequences of the Friuli earthquake in 1976 and today is no longer in use. However, the community replaced the bell tower with a speaker that simulates the sound of bells.

Popular festivals

On July 3, the community celebrates its patron saint, St. Thomas the Apostle. On that occasion, the village has its annual festival, one of the most important moments of the year for the community. The inhabitants prepare for months in advance, filling the streets with dances, music, and delicious food.

In August, there are celebrations for the festival "del Ponte", commemorating the reconstruction of the new road bridge that crosses the Bidoggia canal.

Notes

Faè is a small hamlet with a deep history, and for anyone who wants to see its cultural heritage, it is well worth a visit. The community is made up of exceptional and welcoming individuals, always ready to share their history with visitors.

Bibliography

"Faè, una Parrocchia" by Arturo Benvenuti is an important work that describes the history of the community and how the past has influenced the present. It is a research-oriented work, but is also very interesting for lovers of culture.
