Occhieppo Inferiore
Hi everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a beautiful town in Piedmont called Occhieppo Inferiore, or as they call it in Piedmontese "Ij Cep ëd Sota". It is located in the province of Biella, in the Piedmont region, and has a population of 3754.
Physical Geography
Occhieppo Inferiore is located at the foot of the Biellese Alps, a sight to behold. Its altitude varies from 420 meters (in the northeast, on the border with Occhieppo Superiore) to about 550 meters (in the southeast, on the border with Mongrando). The town center is located between the Elvo river, which flows west of the town, and its tributary Oremo, which borders the east. If you love nature, this place is perfect for you!
History
Symbols
Occhieppo Inferiore has a very peculiar coat of arms. It is a canting coat of arms and is blazoned as follows: "Argent, two black wolf eyes, surmounted by a red Greek cross". The coat of arms, along with the municipal banner, was granted by the President of the Republic on November 23, 1968. It's nice to see tradition still respected today!
Society
Demographic evolution
In recent years, the municipality of Occhieppo Inferiore has seen a slight decrease in population. In 2001, it had 4122 inhabitants, while in 2011, it had 3799. But despite this, we can rest assured that Occhieppo Inferiore never loses its charm!
Administration
The local administrator is Mayor Attilio Davide Grafigna, who has been in office since 2016. If you would like to have a chat with him or one of his representatives, you can find the contact information on the official website of the municipality.
Infrastructure and transport
Once upon a time, Occhieppo Inferiore had its own railway station, which was very useful for travel. It was located along the Biella-Mongrando railway, which was active between 1891 and 1951 and converted into a tramway in 1922. But nowadays, you can use public buses or walk to get around.
