Nureci
Welcome to Nureci: a dive into the history of Sardinia
If you are interested in history and archeology, Nureci, an Italian municipality in Sardinia, is just the place for you. With its 316 inhabitants, this town hides a historical and cultural heritage of inestimable value.
History
The area of Nureci has been inhabited since pre-Nuragic and Nuragic times, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological finds present in the territory. In the Middle Ages, the town was part of the Giudicato of Arborea, while under Spanish rule it was part of a county together with the neighboring town of Asuni. In 1759, a French merchant, Guglielmo Touffani, purchased the territory and obtained the title of Count of Nureci and Asuni. Only in 1839, with the abolition of the feudal system, the town was redeemed.
Monuments and places of interest
If you are a lover of archeology, Nureci has a lot to offer. There are the remains of 14 nuraghi and a megalithic circle on its territory. Among the most interesting, we recall the nuraghe Attori, the nuraghe Serri Armas, and the Punic fortress of Sa Corona 'e su Crobu.
Society
From a demographic point of view, Nureci has undergone a constant decrease in population in recent decades. The language spoken is Western Campidanese Sardinian, a variant of Sardinian spoken in various parts of Sardinia.
Economy
Despite the decrease in population, agriculture and sheep farming remain the main activities in Nureci. In addition, the town has several B&Bs that offer hospitality to tourists who wish to visit the area.
