Nuraminis
Welcome to Nuraminis!
Hello everyone! Today I will be talking about Nuraminis, an Italian municipality located in the province of South Sardinia.
Origins of the name
The name ''Nuràminis'' in Sardinian seems to be composed of the Proto-Sardinian language element of pre-Roman origin ''nur'' meaning "pit", "crack in the ground", "ravine in the shape of a well", "pile". This toponym appears in a document from 1341 as ''de Noramine calaritane diocesis''.
History
Humans have inhabited this territory since prehistoric times and there are archaeological evidence from the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic Sardinian period. In the Roman period, the area was still inhabited, as shown by the discovery of remains of columns and coins from that time.
In the Middle Ages, Nuraminis belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari, in the homonymous curatorship, of which it was the capital and later passed under the dominion of the Crown of Aragon. In the eighteenth century, Nuraminis began to grow again and the Monte Granatico and the Community Council were established. In the nineteenth century, Nuraminis began a period of prosperity, thanks to its healthy position, and some families moved here, such as the noble Vaquer family of Villasor, who contributed to the Unification of Italy.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the flag of the municipality of Nuraminis were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 1990. The coat of arms is inspired by a marble fragment from the Byzantine period inserted in the facade of the parish church of Nuraminis, where two birds are visible, identifiable as crows, one with a leaf in its beak and a patente Greek cross in the center. The flag is a divided banner of yellow and green.

Among the buildings of particular historical and architectural importance there is the parish church of San Pietro, of Gothic-Aragonese origin that was modernized in the eighteenth century.
