Novello
Welcome to Novello: a corner of wine, history and nature
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Novello, a small Piedmontese town that, despite having only 967 inhabitants, has a lot to offer. Located in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of the Langhe of Barolo in Tanaro, Novello is a place mainly devoted to viticulture and agriculture, producing prestigious wines like Barolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera, as well as cultivating Nascetta grapes. But the beauties of Novello are not limited to its wine landscape of Langhe Roero and Monferrato as a UNESCO heritage. Let's discover it together!
Novello: an enchanted place between Cherasco and Dogliani
Novello is located halfway between Cherasco and Dogliani, south of Alba and west of Fossano. Belonging to the Union of Colline di Langa e del Barolo, this small Piedmontese town offers a beautiful agricultural landscape. In fact, the hills of the town are particularly at risk for hailstorms during spring and summer storms. For this reason, many vineyards have net covers to protect the precious vines from frozen grapes.
The history of the town of Novello
Novello has an interesting history: for some centuries, it was the center of a feudal state controlled by the Del Carretto family. From 1268, with the death of Giacomo I Del Carretto and the transfer of his assets to his children, the lordship of Novello was born and included several places, some of which gave rise to the Marquisate of Gorzegno. From the fifteenth century, a dominant class was formed, made up of members of a few local patrician families, always somehow connected to the Del Carretto family. These families formed the town council, among which were the Ferreri/o, Moretti, and Borio families, who provided six mayors in the seventeenth century.
Novello: its society
Novello's demographic evolution is quite stable. Currently, there are a total of 86 foreign residents, divided by nationality: 27 Romanians, followed by others. Regarding administration, I leave you with a table of the administrations that have succeeded in the town.
Conclusions
Novello is an enchanted place that could offer a lot to anyone who loves good wine, nature, and history. Its wine landscape and history make it a unique place. If you pass by, stop and enjoy the beauties of this Piedmontese town!
