Hello everyone and welcome to Noale, a fascinating city located in the Metropolitan City of Venice, in the heart of the Veneto region. With its 16,077 inhabitants, it is part of the Miranese area, along with the neighboring municipalities of Mirano, Santa Maria di Sala, Salzano, Scorzè, Spinea and Martellago. Come with me to discover this city, full of history and nature.

A flat city, but rich in waterways

The territory of Noale is completely flat, with altitudes ranging from 11 to 18 meters above sea level. The city is located in the center of a rural area, surrounded by several waterways. The main watercourse is the Marzenego, which flows along the historic center and the castle. Another noteworthy river is the Draganziolo, its left tributary. Moreover, to the south, the border with Santa Maria di Sala is partly marked by the Muson Vecchio. But not only that: not far from the center, there are also abandoned clay quarries, partly acquired by the Municipality and recovered as an oasis managed by the WWF.

Noale: history and nature in Veneto.

The history of Noale: from Roman times to the Serenissima Republic

Noale has a millennia-old history that dates back to Roman times. Numerous archaeological finds testify to the presence of Romans in the area. Furthermore, there is a tradition that claims that the community of Noale was evangelized by Prosdocimo of Padua, the first bishop of Padua, in the 1st century. The castle of Noale grew in importance after the year 1000 when it was fortified to become a military outpost of Treviso, not far from the border with the rival Padua. In the 12th century (1158), the castle became the residence of the Tempesta (family) lords who had received the office of "avogari", i.e. defenders and administrators of the temporal possessions of the Bishops of Treviso. In 1339, the Tempesta surrendered the Castle of Noale to the Serenissima Republic, which established a Captaincy and later a Regiment (Republic of Venice).

A city that has made history in Italy

Noale played an important role in the history of Italy. During the French domination, the city became a municipality, and during the subsequent Austrian domination, the capital of the district. In 1853, it suffered an administrative downgrade as the birthplace of the patriot Pier Fortunato Calvi. In 1866, along with the whole Veneto region, it entered the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1946), moving from the province of Padua (Lombard-Venetia) to that of Venice. During World War II, the city was the scene of important fights between the Republican National Guard and the partisans led also by Bruno Eugenio Ballan, which occurred in October 1944 between Zeminiana di Massanzago and Briana.

The name of Noale

The name Noale derives from the Latin term "novālis", which means "maggese", i.e. "recently cultivated field". This toponym is widespread throughout northeastern Italy.
