Hydrography

The Province of Rieti is crossed by many rivers, including the famous Tiber, known in Italy as the longest river. Moreover, we also have the Velino, Salto, Turano, and many other rivers and streams. Let's not forget our numerous lakes, such as Lake Salto, Lake Turano, Lake Rascino, Lake Monti della Duchessa, and many others.

History

The Province of Rieti was created in 1927 by the fascist government along with 16 other provinces with the aim of creating a political unity in the ancient region of Sabina, which takes its name from the Sabines, one of the Osco-Umbrian peoples. The province was created by combining the territory of the Rieti district (part of the province of Perugia from 1861 to 1923 and the province of Rome from 1923 to 1927) and the territory of the former Cittaducale district (part of the province of Aquila degli Abruzzi).

In the aftermath of World War II in Italy, there was a debate about the opportunity to maintain the provincial subdivision created by the fascism, and the province of Aquila requested the return of the former Cittaducale district.

Conclusions

In conclusion, the Province of Rieti is a hidden gem of Lazio with breathtaking nature and fascinating history. With its numerous rivers, lakes, and mountain chains, Rieti is the ideal place for nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts. Don't miss the opportunity to visit this beautiful Italian province!
