Gualdo

Gualdo: a discovery in the heart of Italy

Hello friends, today I will tell you about a beautiful little town in the province of Terni: Gualdo. With its 292 inhabitants, it is part of the municipality of Narni and is located at an altitude of 277 meters. This small town is rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.

History: between Roman times and the Middle Ages

Gualdo has an ancient history dating back to Roman times, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds in the area. Unlike other Umbrian towns that take their name from the Germanic language, Gualdo comes from the Latin "valium", meaning shelter or defense. Already in the early 14th century, the castle of Gualdo belonged to Narni. During the Middle Ages, the men of Gualdo and Guadamello were given the important task of preventing access to the port of Santa Lucida in the Tiber Valley below the castle of Guadamello, as described in the documents of the Narnese reforms. In 1566, the inhabitants of Gualdo were called upon to supply cereals, fruit, and poultry to the city of Narni during the weekly market.
