Capitone is located between Narni and Amelia, at an altitude of 397 meters. Its population, according to Istat data of 2001, is 463 inhabitants. From the village you can admire a splendid panorama, ranging from the industrial area of Narni, to the city of Terni and the entire Conca Ternana.

Eel: history, monuments, and traditions in Umbria.

History

The hamlet of Capitone has a long history, having long been under the dominion of the Capitone family. The family has always maintained the autonomous pride of the village, which still exists today. Thanks to its strategic position between the rival cities of Narni and Amelia, Capitone has often been subjected to assaults and looting. Over the centuries, it struggled to maintain its control under Narni and later also became a submission of the State of the Church. In 1419, the hamlet was conquered by Braccio da Montone and defended by Erasmo da Narni against the attack of Attendolo Sforza. In the 16th century, Capitone returned under the dominion of Narni and became an autonomous municipality until 1875, when it was merged into the current municipality, which at the time was part of the province of Perugia.

Economy and events

At the end of July, the "Festa di S. Andrea" takes place during which a horse competition is organized.

Monuments and places of interest

Capitone has many monuments and places of interest. Among these are the remains of the defensive wall with a double-arched door open under a square tower. There is also a lookout tower located outside the historical center, which currently belongs to a farm. Furthermore, there are the Madonna delle Sbarre and the Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo.

Sport

The village of Capitone is home to A.S Capitone, a football team, and the Gruppo Ciclismo Ameria 2000.
