A curious choice of name

The name of the town of Mozzecane derives from a local landowner, Mucius Canis, who received many lands from the City of Verona. Later, his descendants were called "de Moçecanis", which gave rise to the name of the town.

An ancient and glorious history

The history of Mozzecane dates back to the Bronze Age and passes through Roman, Lombard, and Frankish domination. In 1405, the town came under the control of the Serenissima, and subsequently became an independent vicariate. During World War II, Mozzecane housed a prisoner-of-war camp for Allied soldiers, near the town's church. Currently, sports facilities are on the former site of the prisoner-of-war camp, and Mozzecane is proud to have hosted these brave men.

Numerous other churches depended on San Lorenzo, which were destroyed or abandoned due to their remoteness from the town.
