Mozzagrogna

Welcome to Mozzagrogna!

Hello everyone! Today I want to introduce you to Mozzagrogna, a small Italian municipality located in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo. With its 2426 inhabitants, Mozzagrogna is a perfect place for those looking for a peaceful and picturesque atmosphere. The village is divided into the three inhabited areas of Mozzagrogna, Villa Romagnoli and Lucianetti, and is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.

The history of Mozzagrogna

Mozzagrogna has ancient origins, dating back to the 16th century, when a colony of Slavs settled in this place to escape from the Turks. In the previous century, the same population had settled in Lanciano, but was later forced to seek refuge in neighboring towns, including Santa Maria Imbaro, Santa Vittoria and Pietra Costantina. In 1807, these three towns joined Mozzagrogna to form the municipality of Ville. However, in 1816, Santa Maria Imbaro and Mozzagrogna separated while Pietra Costantina was incorporated into the emerging municipality of Mozzagrogna.

During World War II, Mozzagrogna suffered many devastations due to the long presence of the Germans. Almost all buildings were destroyed and looted.

Mozzagrogna boasts several monuments and points of interest. One of them is the Church of San Rocco, located in Viale Frentano. The facade of the church is divided into two bodies with a pediment. The upper part is made of stone, while the rest is covered with yellow colored plaster. The bell tower, located to the left of the facade, is five stories high and consists of a brick tower. The side walls, also plastered, have arched windows.
