History

The first certain news of the existence of a fortified center dates back to 1101 when the territory was acquired by the consuls of the city of Rieti. In 1152, the castle of Morro was among the possessions of the Nobles of Labro donated to the Chapter of the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome.
Throughout the Middle Ages and until the Unification of Italy, the castle of Morro represented the furthest outpost of Rieti and the Papal State before the border with the Kingdom of Naples.
During the period of the Roman Republic (1849), Morro hosted Giuseppe Garibaldi who, together with his friend Bernardo Blasi, fought for the unification of Italy.
