Montonate
A friendly greeting to Montonate
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk about Montonate, a beautiful hamlet of the Municipality of Mornago, located east of the town center, towards Sumirago. I did some research on the history of this small town and I decided to share what I discovered with you, so get ready for a brief trip into Montonate's past!
A brief history of Montonate
This hamlet has ancient origins and belonged to the parish of Somma in the Duchy of Milan. In 1751 Montonate was a village with 271 inhabitants and, in 1786, it was part of the ephemeral Province of Varese for five years. Later there were numerous administrative changes until 1805, when there were 354 inhabitants. During the Napoleonic period, the municipality of Montonate was abolished and was annexed to Caidate, which, however, was itself abolished in 1811 and annexed to Albizzate. Finally, in 1816, all municipalities regained autonomy following the establishment of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom.
With the Unification of Italy, in 1861, Montonate had 530 inhabitants and later, in 1869, it was abolished and annexed to the municipality of Mornago.
The Montonight
Since 2012, Montonate has also become famous for the famous Montonight, a music festival that attracts many people every year. In the last year, DJ Prezioso and Iron Mais participated. Definitely a party not to be missed!
