Mornago

Welcome to Mornago: a journey discovering a Lombard municipality

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a Lombard municipality that I recently discovered: Mornago. With just over 4,900 inhabitants, Mornago is a small town in the province of Varese, located in the historic region of Lombardy, with a truly interesting historical and cultural heritage.

The origin of the name and the history of the municipality

Many have put forward hypotheses about the origin of the name Mornago, but the most accredited theory suggests that the name derives from the Latin Maurinus or Maurenus, a character from Roman times who owned vast tracts of land in the area where the municipality now stands. Over the centuries, the name has undergone several modifications until it became Mornago.

The municipality of Mornago has an ancient origin and has always been part of the territory of Milan. Over the years, it has undergone several territorial changes, including joining the province of Varese in 1927. In 2019, the municipality celebrated its 150th anniversary.
