Valle San Felice
Welcome to Valle San Felice: a hamlet immersed in the nature of Trentino
Hello everyone! Today we will talk about Valle San Felice, a beautiful hamlet of the municipality of Mori, in the autonomous province of Trento. This small village is located at an altitude of 583 meters above sea level and has about 255 inhabitants. It is the first village encountered when ascending the Val di Gresta and is the most important from a historical and artistic point of view.
Physical geography and climate
Valle San Felice is administratively divided into two municipalities of Italy, Ronzo-Chienis and Mori, and is crossed by the Provincial Road 88. The Val di Gresta is crossed by the Gresta stream, a small tributary of the Cameras stream, which in turn is a tributary of the Adige. Today, the valley is famous for the cultivation of organic products, especially potatoes, carrots, zucchini and cabbage, and for this reason it is called ''the organic garden of Trentino''.
The climate of Valle San Felice is mitigated by the proximity of Lake Garda. In summer, temperatures reach 25-30°C, while in winter it generally drops below 0 degrees, although snowfall is less frequent than in other Trentino valleys due to the influence of the mild lake climate.
The history of Valle San Felice
This hamlet is rich in history. In the past, it was simply called Valle or Valle di Gardumo, given its particular geographical position, while San Felice was the Church and therefore the place where the parish church of all the villages of Gardumo was located. The current village derives from some distinct settlements. Specifically, Valle is the settlement located to the left of the Gresta stream; on an isolated hill, located to the east of Valle, in the middle of the little valley that descends from Mount Biaena, stands the parish church and sanctuary of San Felice di Gardumo. However, all the hamlets of Val di Gresta were connected to Mori only after the First World War.
Monuments and places of interest
Valle San Felice is a real artistic treasure. One of the most important monuments of the hamlet is the Church of Saints Felice and Fortunato, the parish church of the village. The church is located in a panoramic and isolated position from the rest of the village and dates back to the Lombard era. In the course of the 16th century, the church was rebuilt in a linear and elegant form, with the façade surmounted by a tympanum and preceded by a large portico built in 1583. The interiors have a single nave, 17th-century frescoes and a stone altar.
Conclusions
Valle San Felice is an enchanting hamlet that must be discovered and appreciated. Its position on the Val di Gresta and the panoramic view are priceless. Here it is still possible to be in contact with nature and discover the Trentino region. The Church of Saints Felice and Fortunato, with its frescoes and its millennial history, is a must-visit for those who want to visit the hamlet.
