Creto

The Creto Pass: a brief introduction

The Creto Pass is a mountain pass in the Ligurian Apennines situated at 603 meters above sea level. It is located on the watershed between the Ligurian Sea and the Po Valley at the border between the Upper Scrivia Valley and the Bisagno Valley.

Description

The Creto Pass is connected to the provincial road n.13 "di Creto". It is crossed by the road that connects Montoggio to Struppa in the municipality of Genoa. The pass is located between Mount Alpe (800 m, to the northwest) and Mount Cornua (832 m, to the east). Not far from the pass is the "Grotta delle Fate", a cavity studied by zoologists for its cave-dwelling insect fauna.

Discover the Creto Hill: between hiking, cycling, and motorcycling.

Hiking and cycling

The Creto Pass is part of the Ligurian Mountains High Trail, where stage 26 ends here, and the next stage 27 starts from the top of the pass. The area is also popular among cyclists, with various mountain bike itineraries, such as the one that starts from Righi. The pass has also been included in some editions of the classic cycling race "Giro dell'Appennino", where this descent towards Genoa has become one of the difficult sections of the race.

Motorcycling

A popular event in Creto is the motorcycle race "Doria-Creto", born in 1927. The race reaches the summit when the road was still unpaved, becoming today a non-competitive event, but with a significant presence of enthusiasts.

Notes

Other projects
