Hello everyone! Today, I will talk to you about Montescano, a municipality with 416 inhabitants in the province of Pavia, located in the beautiful hills of Oltrepò Pavese, where the Versa stream also flows. Here, the main town of Pozzolo is located in the valley, while the historic center of Montescano is located on the hill.

Know that Montescano is known mainly for its important care and rehabilitation center, but it also has a long and interesting history to tell.

History of Montescano

In 1164, much of Oltrepò Pavese passed under the control of Pavia, and Montescano is mentioned in an imperial diploma from that time, which suggests that the town was already important at that time. In the following centuries, the municipality did not leave great traces in history, but always maintained its status as a municipality.

Subsequently, Montescano was included in the feud of Broni, probably followed the fate of Castana, being separated from this feud and passing to the “Borromeo” in the sixteenth century and the “Pallavicino Trivuzio” in the eighteenth century.

Between 1929 and 1948, the municipality was suppressed and aggregated to Castana.
