History
The history of Montesano Salentino has ancient origins, linked to the prehistory of Salento. The center could date back to the 14th century, when some settlers settled attracted by the fertility and healthiness of the territory. The territory in which the municipality is located has been under the control of various families: the Acquaviva, the princes of Cassano and finally the Marulli family, owner of the Marchesato di Specchia and Campomarino. In 1928 the municipality was annexed to Miggiano, but in 1947 it regained administrative autonomy.
