A millenary history
The history of Monterubbiano is long and complex: it dates back to the 6th-5th century BC, when it was founded by the Piceni. Later, with the expansion of Rome, Monterubbiano became a city with the title of "Urbs Urbana". After the fall of Rome, it came under the rule of the Ostrogoths, then the Lombards and, finally, the Duchy of Spoleto, within the Marca Fermana. Around the 12th century, Monterubbiano obtained autonomy as a free municipality under the name Urbiano and for a short period supported the Ghibelline side. The city was contested by numerous powers until, in the 15th century, it became part of the Papal States.

In Monterubbiano, you can admire a great variety of historical buildings.
