Monterosi
A bit of history on the Monterosi team
The Monterosi Tuscia Football Club, known as "Monterosi Tuscia" or simply "Monterosi", is an Italian football team based in Monterosi, in the province of Viterbo. Its football history began in 1968 and the club has continuously progressed through the divisions of the Italian football league, reaching professional status in 2021.
The team's evolution
At first, Monterosi played in the Lazio amateur championships, at a provincial and regional level. It was only in the 2004-2005 season that "SS Monterosi" became known as a team competing in the Second Category, which they won the following year. Between 2006 and 2009, the team won the First Category championship and then the Promotion playoffs, moving up to Eccellenza, the highest amateur level football league in the region. Before the Eccellenza Lazio 2011-2012 season, the team changed its name to "Real Monterosi". Despite three different managers, the team failed to avoid relegation to Promotion at the end of the Eccellenza Lazio 2014-2015 season. However, thanks to a merger with Nuova Sorianese (another Eccellenza team), the team was renamed "Nuova Monterosi" and kept its category. The following season, Eccellenza Lazio 2015-2016, saw the team win the championship and achieve its first historic promotion to Serie D.
The value of Luciano Capponi to Monterosi Tuscia Football Club
In 2004, film director and writer Luciano Capponi began supporting the club through his company "A.S.D. Vigne Nuove", launching the "No Fair No Play" project. This project aimed to promote football for charitable, educational, and non-competitive purposes, through charity matches, children's tournaments, and the establishment of football schools, with various related events. Thanks to Capponi's contribution, the field at the Marcello Martoni stadium, which was little more than a dirt patch, was equipped with a grass surface on April 15, 2004. Over the next five years, Monterosi climbed through the categories until reaching Eccellenza. In 2009, Capponi resigned from the club due to disagreements over its management but returned in 2014. In 2015, he became the president of the red and white club (which became "Nuova Monterosi" and then "Monterosi Football Club") and led the team to its first historic promotion to Serie D.
