The village of Montemiletto has been inhabited since prehistoric times, but the first certain news about Montemiletto dates back to the twelfth century. The village originated in the early Middle Ages and was a fiefdom of the Della Lionessa and Tocco families until 1806. The historic center of the village develops around the Castle of Lionessa, located on the dominating position on the Irpinian hills.

The Castle of Lionessa is one of the major attractions of Montemiletto. The castle can be reached through the "door of the land," an ancient arch adjacent to the castle. Also noteworthy is the Medieval Village, which extends along via Regina Margherita and the numerous "ruve," characteristic stone alleys. The mother church of Santa Maria Assunta is located along via Regina Margherita and is flanked by the bell tower, which is detached from the church building. The church of Sant'Anna, along via Roma, is known for its paintings and for the cloister with porches and well. The new civic center of aggregation is Piazza IV Novembre, located below the Castle of Lionessa.

The Municipality of Montemiletto has seen demographic evolution in recent years, with a stable population of about 5000 inhabitants. The presence of foreign citizens is limited to 2.67% of the municipal population, with the most numerous communities of Romanians and Ukrainians. The Irpinian dialect is widely spoken in Montemiletto.

The administration of Montemiletto

The Municipality of Montemiletto is administered by a municipal council and the mayor. The community is part of the Mountain Community of Partenio and the Tourist Valorization Consortium of Irpinia. In the past, Montemiletto has been the scene of historical events such as the massacre of Montemiletto, which occurred during the Montefalcione Revolt.
