A brief history
Montemarzino was an ancient imperial fiefdom in the Oltrepò Pavese and since 1595 it has been owned by the Marquises Doria. Later, it passed to the Spanish branch of the Spinola family, the Marquesses of Los Balbases, Dukes of Severino and Sesto, Lords of Casalnoceto, Rosano and Barisonzo. The small town was governed with a feudal system until 1753, when Gioacchino Spinola ceded the feudal state to the House of Savoy.
