In the 13th century, the feud of Arroscia and, consequently, Montegrosso, fell under the domain of the Lascaris of Ventimiglia. In 1233, Montegrosso was among the founding villages of the Pieve di Teco, and in 1235, the feuds of Montegrosso, Mendatica, and Cosio were part of the possessions of the brothers Oddone and Robaldo of Garessio.
The end of the 13th century was characterized by new seigniorial disputes for the control of the territory, including the one between the Marquis of Ceva Nano and the Marquis of Clavesana Emanuele I. In 1449, Montegrosso pledged allegiance to the Republic of Genoa.
